In his second presidential run, Stevo Pendarovski is the joint candidate of the ruling SDSM and DUI parties. But until not long ago, Pendarovski was extremely critical of Ali Ahmeti’s Albanian terrorist organization turned political party.
A video with a series of his comments about DUI was posted on Youtube today. In the various interviews, Pendarovski says that “there is no healthy tissue in DUI”, “DUI are servants of the regime” and “DUI are vassals of VMRO-DPMNE”. In one instance, Pendarovski accuses Ahmeti of breaking his “besa”, an Albanian term for “word of honor” which according to tradition no Albanian should ever go back on.
With SDSM unable to win the presidential elections on their own, they asked for support from DUI for their candidate – Pendarovski. But this opens the coalition to a lot of internal strife, given Pendarovski’s outspoken criticism of DUI.
Throughout his career as a presidential adviser, Pendarovski was known as logorrheic on other issues as well. Another statements that comes back to haunt him is his solemn promise that, if the referendum to rename Macedonia fails, “that would be the end of it”
If the referendum fails, then the process ends. Zaev and everybody else say, whatever the form of the referendum – binding, non-binding, the decision of the people will be mandatory for us”, Pendarovski says in this video.
The September 2018 referendum failed due to a disastrously low turnout, but Zaev and Pendarovski pushed that the name change is completed anyway, arresting and blackmailing nine members of Parliament until they agreed to vote in favor of the “new name”.
