Two of the fired diplomats have returned to work with a court verdict, the third is still “waiting” because his case is ongoing in court, but the public raises the question of who will take responsibility for the scandal and whether the diplomats have the right to seek compensation for the damaged reputation and the stress they experienced. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Tuesday Republika that two employees were returned to work and will be paid unpaid salaries and contributions, while the procedure for the third diplomat is not completed.
The Disciplinary Commission in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded that by participating in the Parliament events on April 27 they violated the reputation of the diplomat’s profession and the reputation of the ministry and the state. The court, however, accepted the arguments of the diplomats who stated in their appeal that they did not participate in any violence at all, did not carry banners, did not hold speeches and, most importantly, at that moment had no duties and did not in any way jeopardize the reputation of MpFA. If so, then the question arises, are they right when they suspect that the process against them is ordinary political vengeance towards different minded people, and not some protection of the reputation of the Macedonian diplomacy?
The diplomats, besides being returned to work, will be paid all outstanding salaries and contributions, but it is not excluded that they can seek another satisfaction due to the injustice done to them.
The legal conclusion of this calculation happens at the moment when the newly elected President Stevo Pendarovski announced that he would ask the Government and MoFA to analyze all diplomatic and consular representations of the country abroad and the ambassadors’ competencies to see the foreign policy performances.
