Macron arrived in Israel. While in Israel, he is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, as well as opposition leaders from the political center, including Benny Gantz and Yair Lapid.
He is expected to call for the “protection of civilians” in Gaza as Israel continues to bomb Hamas targets in the Palestinian enclave and prepares for a ground offensive aimed at destroying the militant group that rules the area.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu previously announced that French President Emmanuel Macron and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will visit Israel this week.
