Only hours before it was set to end, Israel and Hamas decided to extend the existing ceasefire by two days, according to Qatari officials on Monday.
Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Majed al Ansari tweeted on X, “The State of Qatar announces, as part of the ongoing mediation, an agreement has been reached to extend the humanitarian truce for an additional two days in the Gaza Strip.”
The declaration was made just hours before the Gaza War ceasefire, which had been in place since Friday morning, was about to expire.
The deal reached by the parties last week allows for the potential prolongation of the truce in exchange for the daily release of an additional ten hostages.
