The newly appointed President of the Council of public prosecutors Aleksandar Koleski rejected the request that the Council’s report on Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva is declassified.

A Parliament Committee is set to begin debating the report tomorrow, in a move which is expected to lead to Janeva’s removal from office, after she was charged with abuse of office and corruption. VMRO-DPMNE member of Parliament Ilija Dimovski, who chairs the Committee on appointments, asked that the report is made public, so that all could be informed about the findings into Janeva’s actions. But Kolevski today said that he won’t allow it.

We decided that we can’t accept the declassification request. There are imperative legal clauses on secrecy and the protection of personal information, Kolevski said.

The Committee can still decide to open its doors to the public if nine out of the 13 members vote in favor.
