A poll conducted by the IPIS Institute for political research shows that VMRO-DPMNE would win the next general elections, winning 21.2 percent of the vote, compared to 19.5 percent for SDSM.
VMRO continues to enjoy a solid lead among ethnic Macedonians, 27.8 percent of whom say will vote for the opposition, against 22.6 percent for SDSM. The ruling leftist party reduces the gap with the help of Albanian voters, winning 9.8 percent of the Albanian votes.
DUI ranks third overall, with 4.6 percent of the vote, and is first among ethnic Albanians with 19.2 percent. The Alliance of Albanians is the best ranked opposition Albanian party, with 2.9 percent overall and 12.5 percent among Albanians alone and its sometime coalition partner BESA adds 1 percent overall and 4.3 percent among the Albanians.
The poll showed that 22 percent of the citizens would not vote for any party. Among Macedonians the percentage is 17.4, while going to almost double that among ethnic Albanians.
