The Levica movement filed a motion against the law on languages to the Constitutional Court eight months ago. They then disputed the way it was adopted, with, as they say, an agreement between the ruling coalition DUI and SDSM, violating all procedures. Now, the Venice Commission’s remarks, according to Levica are immature.

The Venice Commission has no sense of the political moments in our society, in the context of the segregation that this law will make. Yes, it has remarks, but the absolute lack of criticism of external institutions of this type is politically harmful and immature to us. There are many more negative moments that the law can trigger than the Venice Commission has noted. Namely, the Law on bilingualism has the opposite logic of what the government is trying to present. That is, Zaev made a statement that the law is made for better understanding, and in essence – the logic is the opposite: the law of bilingualism additionally, systematically segregates society along ethnic lines, says Redzep Ismail from Levica told “Alfa”.

Ten days ago, they submitted an urgent request to the Constitutional Court that an eight-month silence on a matter of this interest was beyond all standards.
