Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski will not congratulate to Viktor Orban on his re-election as Prime Minister of Hungary. Republika asked Kovacevski’s office whether he sent a message to congratulate to Orban, or maybe asked for a phone call.
Diplomatic protocol is to congratulate when the newly elected official formally begins the mandate, Kovacevski’s office said. Orban won his fourth electoral win in a row and resumed his work as Prime Minister.
Kovacevski’s SDSM party has frequently accused Hungary of supporting the opposition VMRO-DPMNE party, through the years long campaign of persecution against VMRO officials initiated by the Zaev regime. Still, Hungary has remains strong supporter of Macedonia, giving us aid during the coronavirus pandemic and supporting Macedonia’s EU path.
