Although it is certain that the EU today will not give the green light for holding the first Intergovernmental Conference with Macedonia, Germany, as the current chair of the EU presidency, still put the discussion on enlargement on the agenda. The session of the EU General Affairs Council is chaired by the German Minister of State for Europe, Michael Roth, Deutsche Welle reported.
I will inform my colleagues about the enlargement process with Macedonia and Albania. At the beginning of the year, we decided to start negotiations with both countries. The main interest of the EU is to start the negotiations with the Intergovernmental Conference as soon as possible. I hope that all member states will agree on this goal and will be ready to work pragmatically and in solidarity to achieve it. Enlargement must not be held hostage to the bilateral demands of certain member states, Roth said.
