The opposition will talk about elections over and over, only to avoid the key challenge of ensuring that everyone is held accountable for crime and that the law on public prosecution is adopted, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Radmila Sekerinska said, answering a journalist’s question on the position on the date for parliamentary elections, during Thursday’s visit to Prilep-based “Eurocompozit”.

According to her, the consensus on the law on public prosecution is most important, especially as the opposition states it is for the EU and NATO.

It is clear to me that the opposition does not seek elections, but wants to avoid discussion, voting, supporting a law that guarantees the fight against crime and corruption. They will talk about elections over and over, just to escape the key challenge, and that is how to ensure that everyone who has broken the law is held accountable. That is why we need an amendment to the Law on Public Prosecutor’s Office, for which they, the opposition, are obliged to support. A party that does not fight crime and corruption cannot demand elections. We expect that this priority, which is crucial for the citizens and they seek it, is the first issue on which we will reach a consensus. The opposition party cannot say that it seeks, advocates and supports membership in the EU and NATO, and with every decision and every behavior makes a thousand obstacles. If they are for the EU, here’s their chance in September to prove it – to vote for a law on public prosecution and to show that they have stopped supporting crime and corruption, Sekerinska said.
