Answering a question from “Republika” about relations with Bulgaria, government spokesperson Dusko Arsovski said he had the opposite position from Prime Minister Zoran Zaev.

Zaev said yesterday that a new Declaration is being prepared with Bulgaria.

We are ready to adopt a Declaration that will be legally binding for the implementation of everything that is provided by the agreement with Bulgaria, said Zaev.

But today Arsovski says something else.

There is no word on a new annex to the agreement. The government’s stance is that the Good Neighborhood Agreement is an excellent framework for resolving all outstanding issues. If you refer to the idea of how to define the language, it is the right of Bulgaria to maintain such a request, with a footnote or otherwise. However, this is unacceptable for us and is not a good basis for compromise. The EU recognizes the Macedonian language and Bulgaria has the right to its position, the EU Council can take it into account but it cannot be their position, explained Arsovski.
