Prime Minister Zoran Zaev was Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Social Development, special guest at Saturday’s iftar dinner in Abu Dhabi. The Prime Minister announced that the Sheikh intends to invest in Macedonia.
On behalf of the Government, I expressed readiness for thorough cooperation, emphasizing once again the key values of our country, such as the excellent geographical position, the economic flexibility for investments, the hard-working people and the mosaic of cultures and communities that live in our country, Zaev said.
But the friends to whom Zaev promises the “hard-working people” are currently being investigated for corruption, and a warrant has been issued in South Africa. They are the Gupta brothers from India, who are widely known for scandalous embezzlement scandals.
As the New York Times wrote in December, poor Ajay, Atul, and Rajesh became one of the richest men in South Africa overnight, and after authorities began to prosecute them, they fled to Dubai. It’s a scandal weighing billions of dollars.
Although in February this year, the arrest warrant for Ajay, the oldest Gupta, was canceled, they have not yet returned to Johannesburg from where they fled overnight, when police first revealed the corruption scandal involving the brothers and the powerful South African government officials.
