Kosovan media who covered the Berlin summit are reporting that Zoran Zaev threatened to resign as Prime Minister if Macedonia is not given a date to open accession talks.

Zaev met with Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron in Berlin, and the Balkan summit was followed by clear indications from France that no accession talks will be opened with either Macedonia or Albania. Before the summit, Zaev’s team was announcing that his main goal in Berlin will be to get Merkel to push Macron so that Macedonia opens the accession talks, especially as that was a main promise tied to the humiliating and imposed name change.
Kosovan journalist Baton Haxhiu, who was covering the Berlin summit, reports that Zaev resorted to a threat to withdraw from his position if he doesn’t get his way.

The most interesting meeting was between Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Prime Minister of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, with Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron. Things occurred there which significantly affect what will be happening in the Balkans in the future. According to the information we have, Zaev said that if the road to accession talks is not opened, he will resign, said Haxhiu.

Zaev’s spokesman Mile Bosnjakovski shortly denied the report via Twitter.
