Around 550 demonstrators and their vehicles took part in the farmers’ demonstration at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Monday morning to protest the government’s planned subsidy cuts for the agricultural industry.

The police counted 566 tractors, lorries, cars, vans and trailers as well as 550 people on the main boulevard between the Brandenburg Gate and the Victory Column in the centre of the adjoining Tiergarten park by 10 am (0900 GMT), according to a spokeswoman.

In addition to the farmers, many bus and lorry drivers also took part in the protest, and many tradespeople were also among the demonstrators.

The boulevard which connects the two landmarks was already closed on Sunday evening. There was no information about planned road blockades.

According to the spokeswoman, the police were in close contact with the organizer of the rally
