France ordere 45,000 additional police and gendarmerie officers to the streets, to deal with the devastating riots that followed the shooting death of a young kid of African origin.

Paris, Marseille and Lyon are worst affected, as rioters aree robbing stores, setting vehicles on fire and often directly confronting the police with firearms. Police officers have at places responded with live ammunition.
