A 32 year old Iranian threatened to set himself on fire in front of an immigrant hostel in Vienna yesterday, V4 reported.

The migrant had become angry after he allegedly did not receive his allowance, the news website of the Austrian Kronen Zeitung reported on Thursday. The 32-year-old man was pouring petrol from a 1.5 liter bottle over his clothes when Austrian police patrols arrived at the scene. While trying to set himself alight with a lighter, one of the patrolmen managed to hit the lighter out of his hand.

He began to fight with the policemen and was supported in the scuffle by his sister-in-law, a 39-year-old Iranian woman. The policemen asked for reinforcements over the radio and police eventually managed to subdue the pair.

Legal procedures have been initiated against the man, and he will undergo a psychiatric examination.
