Italian coach Luciano Spalletti blamed the pitch at the Philip II stadium in Skopje for the poor result his team had in the European Championship qualifier, which ended 1:1.

We did not know the state the field is in. Macedonia had an advantage here. We could not develop our style of play. We could not isolate the defensive team of the opponent who played with five players in defense, Spalletti said.
