Two children, a girl aged 5 and a boy aged 2, were saved from the ruins of the eight story building which collapsed in Istanbul on Wednesday.

The girl, Havva Tekgoz, was rescued after spending 18 hours under the ruins. A total of 43 people lived in the building, and some are still not accounted for.

Two people were killed and six wounded in the collapse of the building, the Istanbul governor said in a statement. Rescue teams are still looking for survivors they believe remain trapped under the building.
It’s presumed that poor construction and the unlawful adding of three stories to the building was the reason for the tragic collapse.
