VMRO-DPMNE President Hristijan Mickoski presented an ambitions infrastructure development plan for the next four years, which he said will be implemented under a VMRO-DPMNe led Government.
A key strategic project is finally building a highway that would connect Skopje with Macedonia’s second city Bitola, through Prilep. “This will reduce the time needed to get from Skopje to Bitola to 1.5 hours”, Mickoski said.
The plan also provides for the completion of other infrastructure projects started by the previouys VMRO-DPMNE led Government, mainly the highway between Kicevo and Ohrid, and a highway link from Skopje to the border with Kosovo. Another decades long project that was left unfinished – the railway link with Bulgaria via Kriva Palanka is the other major project which Mickoski said will be completed under the next VMRO-DPMNE Government.
The plan also provides for express motorways to be build on a number of key locations. One would link Bitola to the border with Greece. Another would replace the dilapidated Kumanovo – Kriva Palanka road and significantly shorten the time needed to get from Skopje to Sofia. Strumica will be linked to the border with Bulgaria with a similar express road. Express roads will also link Kavadarci to Prilep and Stip to Kocani and Radovis. A total of 150 kilometers of express roads will be built under the VMRO term. Mickoski also promised that 1.000 kilometers of regional roads will be repaved. Mickoski put the investment value of this entire infrastructure project at two billion EUR.
This will be an important stimulus for our construction induystry, Mickoski said, adding that 300 million EUR will be invested in water and sewage facilities.
