Ivan Culakoski, an independent Bitola city Council member, accused the SDSM party led municipal authorities of completely failing in their promise to fight to clean air in one of the main industrial areas in Macedonia.
Show this program you prepared to the parent of a child with cancer and you’ll hear what he thinks about it. This is not a program, these are four pieces of paper which will remain in some drawer. We need urgent measures now, not in two or three years. People are dying and you are laughing here, the independent Council member told his colleagues in an emotional speech.
The city is home to the large REK Bitola coal power plant which produces most of Macedonia’s electricity. Culakoski, who lost both his parents to cancer, said that he expected that new municipal authorities will not forget their promises so quickly.
