Blerim Reka, who was the ethnic Albanian opposition candidate in the recent presidential elections in Macedonia, is one of the candidates to become the next Kosovan Foreign Minister.

Reka, and the two parties who nominated him – BESA and the Alliance of Albanians – are closely affiliated with the Vetevendosje (VV) party in Kosovo which narrowly won the general elections there. VV leader Albin Kurti is reportedly considering Reka, who was Macedonian ambassador to the EU, to be the head of his diplomacy.

Albania and Kosovo have a growing tradition of nominating each other’s citizens to Government and other high positions, to signal that they are acting as a single national polity.
