VMRO-DPMNE President Hristijan Mickoski said that the refusal of DUI and SDSM to accept appointing an ethnic Albanian as Prime Minister laid bare how these two parties are abusing inter-ethnic divisions to stay in power. Mickoski made a public offer that the leader of the Alternative party Afrim Gashi is made interim Prime Minister and help the country prepare for early elections, but this was rejected as SDSM and DUI are trying to cling on to power with Gashi’s votes in Parliament.

Our idea with this was to show the calculations that drive this group of politicians who are on their way out of the olitical scene. And to finally close this chapter of nationalism and divisions. As VMRO-DPMNE, we wanted to show that we are entering a new era where the people will be judged based on their competence and not on their national, religious or political affiliation. With one sentence we drew out the entire dishonesty of these politicians, Mickoski said.

DUI insists that they will have the first ethnic Albanian Prime Minister of Macedonia, appointed with SDSM’s help, but not now. DUI wants this to be done at the end of their joint term in power with SDSM.
