Twenty-seven ambassador posts have not yet been filled, some are very important diplomatic centers for the country, such as the United States and NATO, and Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said on Thursday that he will hold talks with Foreign Minister Nikola Dimitrov these days to speed up the process of filling key posts, like the post of ambassador to NATO.

The country is expected to become an official NATO member very soon, with three more ratifications separating it from full-fledged membership. Twenty-six countries, including the United States, have given the green light for Macedonia to join the Alliance. It is soon to be done by France, the Netherlands and Spain, and the Protocol is then due to pass in our Parliament.

However, no ambassador has been appointed there yet. Zoran Todorov is listed as an acting ambassador on MoFA’s website. Zaev’s adviser, Dane Taleski, was mentioned as a possible candidate, and on Thursday the prime minister did not want to mention names, but stressed that the post of ambassador to NATO was a priority.

He added that he expects some of the procedures for new ambassadors to end in November, December, and possibly January and February.
