VMRO-DPMNE called out Skopje Mayor Petre Silegov to reveal who is the mystery investor who is building on top of the large GTC mall. The open plan mall was the focal point of much of the protests staged by the SDSM party in 2015 and 2016, after the then VMRO-DPMNE led Government presented plans to enclose it and change its outlook from the current brutalist style to a neoclassical style.

SDSM organized a municipal referendum to stop the redevelopment of GTC and its protesters staged “human chains” around the mall.

In response, after assuming power Mayor Silegov insisted that he will build a modernist green roof on top of GTC, but the public was alarmed as a structure started to get built instead.

What is being built is a restaurant which, we have learnt, will be ran by people close to Silegov and his party, VMRO-DPMNE said in a press release.

Ten days ago Silegov published a video of a yet unidentified man destroying some of the work laid for the “green roof” and blamed the opposition of undermining his GTC project. But now, his town hall is avoiding giving answers as to who will manage the restaurant or cafe that is being built.
