Zoran Zaev promoted Dimitar Kovacevski as his successor in SDSM, media outlets are reporting. SDSM is holding a meeting of its Executive and Central Board, and the party is expected to prepare a party-wide vote of its members for a new leader in two weeks time.

There was no reaction from the delegates to Zaev’s endorsement, the pro-SDSM TV24 channel reports, citing an unnamed party official.

Zaev recently took Kovacevski, who is broadly unknown and currently serves as Deputy Finance Minister, to his meeting with the prospective new coalition member – the Alternative party. It’s possible that Kovacevski will face challenges, despite Zaev’s apparent endorsement.
