While still far from the crisis 2015-2016 levels, the influx of migrants onto the larger Greek islands close to Greece continues. Lesvos saw 455 migrants over the weekend, and other islands saw about as many combined. The first eight days of September had a total of 2.500 new arrivals.

The Mitsotakis Government announced it will reduce overcrowding in the island camps by moving thousands of the migrants onto the mainland, which has usually led to their quick trek toward Macedonia and then north to the core EU member states.

Macedonian police stops traffickers of migrants almost daily, most often on the highway linking Greece and Serbia.
