Greek opposition leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis called for early general elections to be held in May, ahead of the regular term in October.
His conservative New Democracy has a solid lead ahead of the ruling socialist SYRIZA party, and Mitsotakis proposed that the general elections are moved forward and be held with the European elections.
Tsipras narrowly survived a vote of no confidence after the nationalist ANEL party left his coalition over the deal to rename Macedonia. Afterwards, Tsipras was able to push the agreement through Parliament, and will soon have to ratify Macedonia’s NATO accession protocol.
