Culture Minister Bisera Kostadinovska-Stojchevska, accompanied by women diplomats and public officials, embarked on a walking tour to the Kokino archaeological site, among the world’s oldest observatories. The aim was to bolster recognition and appreciation of the cultural heritage in that region.

Emphasizing the enduring support from the Ministry of Culture, experts, and international funds, Minister Kostadinovska-Stojchevska expressed gratitude, particularly acknowledging the backing from the U.S. Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation. This support, spanning fifteen projects since 2001, notably contributed to preserving the Kokino megalithic observatory in 2006. She voiced hope for continued assistance in fulfilling the action plan for Kokino’s development.

Highlighting Kokino’s inclusion in UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List, the Minister underscored the ongoing efforts required for its eventual addition to the prestigious list.

Moreover, she emphasized Kokino’s significant potential in catalyzing local economic growth and fostering regional tourism, underscoring the importance of leveraging this potential.

The women diplomats and officials who joined the tour expressed delight in visiting Kokino and voiced optimism for its eventual inclusion in UNESCO’s roster of protected sites. Prior to Kokino, the tour also explored the “St. George” church in Staro Nagorichane, offering participants an opportunity to delve into the area’s rich history and cultural heritage.
