Sethstat will headline “Today It’s All About Jazz,” an event featuring local bands, a documentary screening, and jazz workshops hosted by the Youth Cultural Center to celebrate International Jazz Day on April 30.
Also participating in the annual celebration, held for the third year, are jazz groups Parusion Quartet, Boppers, and Project 5, who will perform in the evening.
The event will start at 3 pm with Jazz for Kids.
Focusing on the major instruments in jazz and the greatest musicians in jazz history, the introductory workshop will be run by sax player Kiril Kuzmanov, piano player Gordan Spasovski, bass player Kiril Tufekchievski, and drummer and percussionist Blagoja Antovski.
Next, drummer and composer Damjan Danevski will hold Drum Talk, a workshop on Max Roach (1924-2007), the American jazz drummer and composer who pioneered bebop.
As part of the workshop, Danevski will play jazz standards, joined by Spasovski on piano and Tufekchievski on bass.
Today It’s All About Jazz will also include performances by students from the jazz department at the Faculty of Music; members of the Association of Jazz Musicians’ Big Band, and Macedonian jazz vocalist John Ilija Apelgren.
Following a screening of a documentary on jazz, Macedonian composer and jazz pioneer Ilija Pejovski will receive a special award for his contribution to the development of the music genre in the country.
The event is organized by the Association of Jazz Musicians and Artists in collaboration with MKC.
