Some staple brands of cooking oil have reached 105 denars per liter, and the pricier ones are sold for 120 denars (2 EUR), adding to the pain consumers are feeling in the supermarkets.
The only fully domestic producer, “Blagoj Gjorev” from Veles, keeps its oil at 95 denars per liter, but is struggling to find enough domestic sunflower growers to expand production. Other brands import unrefined oil and finish processing in Macedonia, and have announced they will need to hike prices in the coming period.
