French Secretary of State for European Affairs Amelie de Montchalin said that the doors for EU membership are not closed for Macedonia, even as France vetoed the opening of EU accession talks in October.
De Montchalin was speaking at the National Assembly as France ratified Macedonia’s NATO membership and said that Macedonia’s “path to membership” was not questioned by France. France proposed reforms to the enlargement process, but also to the European Union itself, as conditions before it will allow the accession of new EU member states.
