The Council of Public Prosecutors summoned organized crime prosecutor Vilma Ruskoska to answer about her threat aimed at the Skopje Appeals Court judges.

Ruskoska announced a financial investigation into the judges and reportedly sent a text message to at least one judge that she will make them “quake in their pants”. The judges drew Ruskoska’s ire after they made a scandalous decision to allow former Special Prosecutor Katica Janeva to be released from detention and sent into house arrest – in the apartment of her son Lazar no less, who is a suspect in the racketeering case against Janeva. Janeva was initially given a several months head start by Ruskoska, to try and destroy evidence and possibly intimidate witnesses, but she was finally detained in August and spent three full months in the Sutka prison.

Ruskoska’s threats aimed at the judges who released Janeva sparked a public feud between the prosecutor’s office and the court. Eventually the office of state prosecutors tried to downplay the incident and said that Ruskoska was just disappointed by the Appeals Court decision.

At the height of her power, Special Prosecutor Janeva also frequently threatened judges with criminal prosecution, not to mention the many public threats aimed at members of Parliament and other office holders. Janeva launched investigations against administrative court judges, while publicly threatening those who would decide against the requests of her assistant prosecutors in some of the major cases she initiated.
