Healthcare inspectors are investigating the Stip hospital after a large number of Covid-19 deaths allegedly due to lack of basic necessities such as oxygen bottles. The death of a 41 year old mother shocked the country and sparked the investigation, and local opposition member of Parliament Ivan Jordanov said that Healthcare Minister Venko Filipce was informed about the appaling state of care in the hospital.

It’s become a daily event that patients are denied oxygen in the Stip hospital. Patients and their relatives testify to this. This Covid center, if we can call it that, operates under improvised conditions at best, Jordanov said.

The touching social media post from the patient’s daughter caused an outpouring of grief across the country. The hospital is meant to care for patients not only from Stip but from across the eastern parts of Macedonia.
