Saso Ordanoski, one of the most outspoken pro-Zaev journalists in Macedonia, sent a thinly veiled threat that Ali Ahmeti and his DUI party may end up like Gaddafi’s Libya, unless he plays ball in the coming purge of Government officials.

Zaev made the first move in the promised purge yesterdauy and dismissed about a 100 of his local party officials, but also the six party deputy leaders and a number of other top officials. But, it is unclear whether Zaev has any leverage to get Ahmeti to agree to changes in the Government, especially after Albanian votes, partially provided by Ahmeti, were crucial in dragging the joint SDSM – DUI presidential candidate Stevo Pendarovski across the finish line.

Ordanoski, who is building a reputation as a person who is close to the diplomatic circles in Macedonia, especially those of the German and the US embassy, warned the former Albanian terrorist commander about the grim fate that awaits him if he refuses to accept Zaev’s demands.

The reform in the Government leaves Ali Ahmeti with an unusual opportunity to salvage what is left of his reputation in the public, now that it’s clear nobody is strong enough to remove him from his post in DUI. DUI and Ahmeti are like Libya and Gaddafi – if Ali moves away, Libya falls apart into warring tribes that can’t be put together without the use of force, Ordanoski wrote in his latest editorial.

The journalist also predicts that the party largest Albanian party will be finished within a year and half, after the next elections. He adds that the talks between SDSM and DUI are conducted in English, implying that diplomats in Skopje are running the show.

SDSM and DUI are in a coalition but are also fighting over the Albanian vote, which is the only growing segment of votes for SDSM, after the party was soundly defeated in the Macedonian camp by VMRO-DPMNE. SDSM designated a former journalist Muhamed Zekiri to lead their outreach toward the Albanian voters, which is a permanent source of friction with DUI.
