Interim Prime Minister Oliver Spasovski underlined the determination of his SDSM party not to allow the dissolution of Parliament until the controversial PPO law on state prosecutors, and other legal priorities for SDSM, are adopted. Spasovski was asked whether this pressure from SDSM will mean that the elections will be canceled.

We first must adopt the laws adn then the Parliament will dissolve, Spasovski said.

This pressure, and the apparent haggling between SDSM and their key coalition partner DUI, sent sparks flying yesterday, and SDSM threatened DUI that they will be left out of the ruling coalition and replaced with other Albanian partners. Spasovski today said that the relations between the two parties are fair and that DUI should not obstruct the PPO law and other SDSM priorities, which also include removing Labour and Welfare Minister Rasela Mizrahi.

In October, after the Government’s failure to get a date to open EU accession talks, all major political parties agreed to hold early elections on April 12, which requires the dissolution of Parliament 60 days prior – a deadline that is already breached. SDSM is down in the polls, and the party has tried to cancel the elections using various excuses over the past several months.
