Alliance of Albanians leader Ziadin Sela said that he suggested to Zoran Zaev that the country would be best lead by a grand coalition, especially given how narrow the results of the July 15 elections were, but that Zaev refused. “They insisted that their majority is sufficient”, Sela said.
Zaev formed a Government with DUI as his coalition partner. This has now lead to serious issues in the functioning of the Parliament, as the ruling coalition has only 62 seats in the 120 seat body.
In a TV interview, Sela said that, as the leader of an opposition party, it is natural that they support the vote of no confidence in Deputy Prime Minister Nikola Dimitrov. The proposal was submitted to Parliament by VMRO-DPMNE and its coalition partners, as well as Levica, after the complete failure of the Government’s Bulgaria policy.
It’s natural that we support any initiative for a vote of no confidence, Sela said. AA and its partner, the Alternative party lead by Afrim Gashi, are developing an opposition bloc with VMRO.
Sela added that his party waited for 100 days after the founding of the current Zaev Government before making its proposals, and is coming out with the proposal to ease the citizenship law, allowing people to claim Macedonian citizenship merely by producing three witnesses who will declare that the claimant has lived in Macedonia for a certain period of time. This is expected to make it even easier for Albanians from Kosovo and Albania to claim citizenship.
