Minister Kaja Shukova revealed that the tender file for building a central landfill in Sveti Nikole and waste transfer stations for the east and northeast regions is nearly complete. Anticipated to be worth around EUR 40 million, the package includes equipment procurement like bins, containers, and vehicles. Shukova expects the tender to be published by the year’s end or January at the latest.

This initiative aims to close municipal landfills, with the first tender already in progress, resulting in the closure of some landfills and the transfer of waste from smaller sites to larger ones. The project’s final stages involve constructing a central station in Sveti Nikole and transfer stations for waste collection.

Shukova highlighted this as Macedonia’s significant waste management project, noting plans for further initiatives in other regions aided by a new European Bank for Reconstruction and Development loan, which will extend to five additional areas in the country.
