A passenger van carrying 25 illegal migrants had an accident on the regional road between Sveti Nikole and Kumanovo.

Police found that the driver has fled and some of the migrants had sustained injuries, Alsat TV reported. The group was taken to the Kumanovo hospital for treatment.

Kumanovo is the main transit center for illegal immigrants from Macedonia into Serbia, on their way up north along the Balkan route. The road from Sveti Nikole is less used than that main north – south highway and the trafficker was apparently thinking it would be easier to avoid the police.
