I spoke with my interlocutor about the lack of ability and will in the Government to implement the reforms necessary to bring the the Republic of Macedonia ijnto the European Union. I emphasized that this Government is engaged in political persecution against the members and supporters of VMRO-DPMNE, persecution performed through fabricated trials and abuse of the state institutions. Meanwhile, crime and corruption generated by the Government are turning into key problems which Macedonia faces, Mickoski told Plomp during the meeting.

The Netherlands and France are the main opponents of opening EU accession talks with Macedonia and other Balkan countries, with the Dutch objections focused mostly on the high levels of crime the Balkan immigrants.
