Lionel Messi, currently playing for Major League Soccer side Inter Miami, secured his eighth FIFA Best men’s player award on Monday. The shortlist included Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and France forward Kylian Mbappe, with Messi’s performances since Argentina’s World Cup win being a key factor in his win. Spain’s Aitana Bonmati, a World Cup winner, claimed the FIFA Best women’s player award, while Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was named best men’s coach for guiding City to a treble. England boss Sarina Wiegman won best women’s coach for the second consecutive year. Seven of Wiegman’s England squad earned spots in the FIFA FIFPRO Women’s World XI. Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps received the best women’s goalkeeper award for the second year in a row.
