In recent days there have been around 500 fewer taxis at the ranks of Berlin-Tegel airport, as Muslim drivers celebrate the end of Ramadan.

The month-long Muslim fast of Ramadan came to an end on Tuesday. The end of Ramadan is traditionally celebrated with a three-day “breaking the fast” celebration. Due to the celebration, there were much fewer taxis in Berlin than usual, the website of Berliner Zeitung reported.

Rolf Feja, vice-president of the Berlin taxi drivers’ association, told the German daily that some 500 fewer taxis have been available to passengers at the Berlin-Tegel airport alone.

In related news, Berlin taxi drivers are planning a demonstration against the taxi app Uber in the German capital on Thursday. The drivers are upset about dwindling passenger traffic as a result of the application.
