Just ahead of Christmas, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged his fellow citizens to maintain their defensive efforts for the country. He stressed the need for focused attention, effort, and energy to achieve Ukraine’s goals.

Zelensky’s message came amidst ongoing Russian drone attacks, with reports of debris from a downed drone damaging a residential building in Kiev. Ukraine is now officially celebrating Christmas on December 25, aligning with the Western tradition.

The President emphasized the importance of concentration and work, particularly in regions targeted by Russia, such as Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhya, and Kherson.

In parallel, the Kremlin announced plans for Russian military conscripts to receive digital call-up papers starting next year, eliminating the need for physical appearance at recruitment offices. This move aligns with a law signed by Putin earlier in the year, making military service more accessible and enforcing restrictions on leaving the country for registered conscripts.

Despite concerns about potential mobilization, Putin assured no new mobilization was required, praising the performance of previously called-up troops.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Defence appealed to men abroad to return and defend their country, but clarified there were no immediate plans to enforce their return through sanctions or legal pressures.

Meanwhile, ongoing conflict resulted in casualties and damages in eastern Ukraine, specifically near Toretsk. Despite attacks, Ukrainian air defences successfully intercepted a significant number of Russian combat drones.

Ukraine, facing consistent nightly attacks, heavily relies on Western support for defense. Kiev remains hopeful for continued aid from the European Union and the United States amidst recent uncertainties.
