Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said that the information that German Chancellor Angela Merkel is against giving Macedonia a date for EU accession talks is old and he expects that in June or July we will get a date for EU accession talks.
We talked with MPs from the parliamentary majority and they themselves are aware that it will not be sustainable if we do not get a date. But I am optimistic that the EU will deliver. Next week I am going to meet with Chancellor Angela Merkel, who was here to give her support for the referendum, and she is not against, said Prime Minister Zoran Zaev at the opening of the renovated department of the Clinic for Plastic Surgery, commenting on the Süddeutsche Zeitung reports.
Zaev believes that Albania will overcome obstacles and together we will move towards the EU. But he reminded the Union that no country should be put on hold in the integration because of the “sins” of another country.
Albania is our great friend. It’s nice to move together and help each other. I believe that a decision will be made for both countries, but no country should be put on hold because of external circumstances that do not depend on the country itself. The rules of the European Union are clear, if the country delivers, then Europe should deliver. A merit system exists for each country. We are deserving more than ever. Our country has been waiting for 15 years.
