Cooking oil prices will go up, and manufactures will be allowed to reduce bottle sizes, said Aneta Simeska – Dimoska, who heads the DPI market inspection service. The Kovacevski Government has relied on these inspectors to go after retailers as Macedonia faces some signs of food shortages and has imposed limits on profit margins.

Cooking oil prices can go up to 110 denars per bottle. Depending on the manufacturer, this price will apply to bottles from 0.8 to 1 liter, Simeska said.

Current prices are about 94 denars (1.5 EUR) per liter. Simeska blamed speculative practices and panic for the occasional shortages of cooking oil in the markets.
