On Wednesday, the Judicial Council reached a decision with seven affirmative votes to conclude the proceedings regarding the accountability of Supreme Court President Besa Ademi.

The Council members cast their votes on a motion presented by member Miljazim Mustafa, aiming to ascertain Ademi’s responsibility due to her non-participation in Council sessions and her statements alleging political pressure on Supreme Court judges during an interview.

Some members argued for the termination of the procedure, taking into account various factors, including Ademi’s responsibilities as the Supreme Court President. Conversely, others advocated for reprimanding her for improper conduct.

The Judicial Council, consisting of 15 members, serves as an independent authority safeguarding judiciary independence. The ex-officio members include the Supreme Court President and the Justice Minister, who, as per the Law on the Judicial Council, participate in the Council’s proceedings without voting rights. They are not involved in sessions addressing the determination of liability, judge or court president elections, or dismissals.
