The EPP party elected former Polish Prime Minister and European Council President Donald Tusk to be the next party leaders.

Tusk was elected to assume the place of Frenchman Joseph Daul at the Zagreb EPP summit. He was the only candidate and won 491 votes of EPP delegates, with 37 opposed.

Tusk promised that he will begin a fight against what he called the populists, referring to the parties to EPP’s right.
