Strumica celebrated its annual carnival yesterday, with hundreds of masked revelers and guests coming from neighboring countries.
Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, who counts Strumica as his political stronghold, was there with much of his Government and EU Ambassador Samuel Zbogar. Even as Macedonia under Zaev gives up on much of its history, the centuries old carnival featured masks going back to the pagan times, but also featured modern and comical characters.
