Georgi Manaskov, head of the Energy Chamber of Commerce, accused the EVN Macedonia company of rigging electricity bills during the on-going crisis. EVN is facing major financial problems with the increase in prices of imported energy, and it recently secured a months long reprieve from paying its main supplier – the state owned ELEM/ESM company, as well as an about 15-20 percent increase in the regulated energy price.

According to Manaskov, EVN is also rigging the devices used to measure consumption. “This is done quietly, they are adding kilowatts, even megawatts to our digital measuring devices. They are not being independently controlled. We do not have an independent audit body. For 17 years EVN is repairing and checking the devices on its own”, Manaskov said.

He added that the Chamber is still waiting on response from the Government to see the recently signed agreement with the Austrian distributor.
