As polling places close in the Hungarian general elections, polls showed that the conservative Fidesz party of Prime Minister Viktor Orban stands to win solid majority over the coalition of left, right, far left and far right parties that challenged him.
The Perspective agency poll showed that Fidesz is expected to win 119 seats in Parliament – against 79 for the opposition. The Social Researcher poll put the Fidesz expected tally at 123 seats, against 69 for the opposition. And the Median poll is the most favorable to Orban, with 128 to 71 seats.
Over 8.3 million Hungarians have the right to vote, and turnout surpassed 63 percent. Along with the elections, Hungarians also vote in a referendum over whether to ban inappropriate sexual education in schools without parental consent.
