Sundance award winner Honeyland, directed by Tamara Kotevska and Ljubomir Stefanov, will open the 15th Magnificent 7 European feature documentary film festival in Belgrade on April 9.
Honeyland centers on the last female wild beekeeper in Europe, who must save the bees and restore harmony when an itinerant family moves in and upsets the natural order.
Filmmakers Kotevska and Stefanov’s directing debut stars Hatidze Muratova, Nazife Muratova, Hussein Sam, Ljutvie Sam, and Mustafa Sam.
The documentary was produced by Atanas Georgiev, with Fejmi Daut and Samir Ljuma as cinematographers.
They have “created magical sights” and images “like classic Dutch paintings,” according to Magnificent 7 festival organizers.
Honeyland won Sundance’s World Cinema Documentary Grand Jury Prize, World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Impact for Change, and World Cinema Documentary Special Jury Award for Cinematography.
